Congratulations and Thanksgiving
by Diana Kovac, District Governor
For those who were unable to attend the Fall Conference in Topeka, you missed out on some of the best educational sessions, presentations and FUN that was experienced at the conference! A HUGE Thank You to Shaun Bennett and the whole “Topeka Team” that put together such a grand event!

Mark your calendars now for the Spring Conference, April 13 & 14 and don’t miss out!

All of the Evaluation and Humorous speakers were outstanding, many thanks to all of them for their participation. You all truly made this a memorable event.

Congratulations to:
Gary Hogsett - winner of D22 Humorous Speech Contest
Ryan Hartwich -winner of D22 Evaluation Contest
Annette Rude -D22 Division Governor of the Year
Shaun Bennett - D22 Area Gov of the Year
Larry Wilson -D22 Toastmaster of the Year

My thanks and admirations go out to all of them for the effort they have made not only in the area of self improvement but in reaching out to others in the form of servant leadership. They have truly changed lives and reached out to change the world ~ one toastmaster at a time and by doing that have touched many, many lives.

As we approach the holiday of Thanksgiving we all have many things to be thankful for. I am thankful for each and every one of you. You have reached out for the many benefits that Toastmasters has to offer. Each one of you adds something unique and special to your clubs. As December draws even closer, I hope you will have reached the goals you have set for yourself. If so, continue to reach for that next goal. If not, continue on and accomplish it as soon as possible and be the best you can be! Thank you all for all you do!

Have a Wonderful Thanksgiving. I hope you all will enjoy family, friends, food and fun!

First Distinguished Club Recorded
by Cyndra Melville, DTM
We have our first Distinguished Club!

CONGRATULATIONS to KU Engineering! This is according to the Toastmasters web site. Several other clubs are close.

Congratulations are also in order for the 28 clubs with their first membership point and 6 clubs with their second membership point in the Distinguished Club Program!

Tell us how your club is utilizing the BAG (Bring A Guest) promotion. E-mail me at cyndra.melville@sbcglobal.net so we can share your ideas with other clubs.

We still have several opportunities for Club Coach to help with low membership clubs and X-Team members to help with starting new clubs. Contact your Area Governor or Division Governor if you would like the challenge and fun.

Never Apologize Before A Speech
by Dan May, Immediate Past President Building Speakers Club
Fellow Toastmasters,

I NEVER apologize before a speech. No one should. If I'm not properly prepared, it will be readily apparent to the listener. I need not warn them I'm not as well prepared as I could be. I had ample time to prepare and didn't get it done as I would have liked. That being said, I felt it was important to fulfill my obligation to all the members of the club to give my speech as scheduled. The only person I let down by not giving the very best speech possible was me. I'll live with that. If I don't give a speech at all, I'm letting all of my fellow Toastmasters down. Everyone benefits when someone gives a speech. I've made a commitment to Toastmasters and everyone in Building Speakers. I'd encourage all Building Speakers members who are finding it difficult to fulfill their obligations to review the Toastmasters Promise that each one of us read aloud and signed. The promise is the basis of our clubs existence. Sometimes circumstances won't allow us to fulfill our obligations. This is part of our club being tied to our business and just plain life in general. Otherwise, we should all do our best to be prepared and fulfill our commitments to each other, Toastmasters and Building Speakers.
Fall Conference
by Cheri Standiford, Area L2 Governor
Hello Fellow Toastmasters, I hope this finds you all well. I've spent the morning collecting my thoughts about the Conference that took place in Topeka, and all I can say is WOW! Was it ever fun, informative, enriching, rewarding and did I mention FUN?

Januarie Wood explained the DIVE method in a workshop Saturday. Divulge, Invite, Value and Energize. "When you dive in and really share of yourself, your audience's hearts and minds will open to you and you will create speeches they will never forget!" It was simply amazing. At the Hall of Fame Honors Awards, many Toastmasters were recognized for their contributions to the organization and RW Thompson from L2 was recognized for his achievement of Distinguished Toastmaster (DTM). It was very, very nice and it leaves you with the thought and determination that "I can do that too".

The Humorous Speech Contest--what a treat! To hear five of the funniest speeches I believe I have ever heard was a great way to top off the Conference. If anyone is interested in purchasing a copy of the Evaluation portion and Humorous Speech portion of the conference, it was taped and is available for sale at www.toastmasterstopeka.com.

To those who missed the conference, you missed a great time of information, entertainment and fellowship. But guess what, you will get another chance this spring because Area L is hosting the Spring Conference here in Kansas City on April 13 and 14, 2007.
