Toastmasters Region V Conference
June 20-21 at the KCI Marriott

Jazz Band

By Jeanette Allen, ACB CL
Region V Planning Team

Jump at the chance to Jazz It Up! at the Region V conference June 20-21 at the Kansas City Airport Marriott. Seize this rare opportunity to attend the regional conference in our "own backyard" as District 22 hosts the conference only once every 8 years. District 22 is dishing up a jam-packed conference that combines the best of Kansas City - jazz and BBQ - with the best of Toastmasters!

What's different about the Region V Conference compared to the Spring and Fall District conferences?
  • Expanded educational opportunities - Educational sessions start on Friday afternoon giving you more opportunities to expand your mind and knowledge on subjects such as new club planning, the art of evaluating, and pumping up your audience.
  • Experience the excitement of hearing a World Champion of Public Speaking, Jim Key, as he kicks off the educational sessions Friday afternoon at 1 P.M. with his presentation, "The Excellence Principle."
  • Speech competition soars to new heights with the International Speech Contest!  Cheer on District 22's Devon Jackson and the winners from the other 7 districts in region V as they show off their spectacular speaking skills in a head to head competition.  The winner of this contest will represent Region V in the World Championship of Public Speaking at the International Conference in Calgary, Alberta, Canada in August.
  • Receive inspiration and show your support for the much admired and highly respected Carol Marinovich as she is awarded the coveted Communication and Leadership award.
  • Ebay has nothing on Toastmasters! Compete with your fellow Toastmasters in the "bidding wars" for tantalizing treasures at the Silent Auction.
Drawing on Kansas City's jazz roots, music for the opening ceremony will be provided by the Elder Statesmen followed by the keynote address by Glenn North from the American Jazz Museum, who will enlighten us with how jazz has influenced American history and culture.

The conference will be loaded with laughter! Here is a sampling of some rib-tickling you'll experience:
  • Laugh and learn while listening to barbeque tips from the BBQ Queens
  • Cackle, chuckle, and chortle through the Humorous Showcase that will feature the most hilarious speakers from across Region V.
Some items to note:
  • If you would like to volunteer to help with the conference, please contact Lois Harger - loisdtm@att.net
  • Unlike the District conferences, there is no club registration available for the Region V Conference. Clubs should consider paying the registration for their club presidents.
  • Be sure to register soon if you want meals at the conference! No meals will be sold after June 13th.
