We had a very successful training for Division Governor/Area Governors on June 14.  In addition to the Top 3, several District leaders came to take part.  Pam Turner, Jeannette Allen, Evie Curtis, and Al Vorhees.  We had the TALKRS Bowl, a game show take-off,  after each presentation which really added to the fun.

All Governors committed to Distinguished or better for their respective Divisions and Areas.  There was real enthusiasm and excitement!

Make it a Celebration

By Annette Rude, DTM
Lieutenant Governor Marketing

Two weeks remain in this Toastmaster year not only to reach this year's goals but also to induct next year's officers, whose terms begin July 1.

Make it official.  Once you have elected your new club officers, be sure to submit the new officer list to TI by June 30.  The outgoing club president has receive new manuals from TI and should pass those on to the new president.

Schedule an induction ceremony to pass control to the new officer team. The club president's manual explains the induction ceremony.

Recognition of your outgoing officer team during the ceremony is both courteous and affirming for those officers.  It also offers their example as a role model to other members.  Besides, that certificate of appreciation provides a record of their service as a club officer.

Inducting your new officers in front of the club brings the new leaders into the spotlight and strengthens their commitment to club.  Remember to include the members in the audience in your ceremony to renew their commitment to the club.
The end of the Toastmaster year is also the beginning of the new one.  Make it a celebration.

Welcome Ridgeview Toastmasters!

By Margaret Hodge, ACS CL
Division K Governor

One of the highlights of my term as Division K Governor was the opportunity to be actively involved with the formation of a fourth Farmers Insurance Club at their Ridgeview location in Olathe.

Ridgeview Toastmasters officially chartered on May 14, 2008.

Tisha Richardson and Melissa Laughlin of Farmers Insurance did a great job of recruiting members for the new club.

Thank-you to the members of S'MartMasters and Big Blue Toastmasters who filled roles at the Demo or demonstration meeting, and special thanks to David Jay who is serving as the new club's Mentor.

We had a fun Demo meeting. Farmers Insurance provided pizza. All the prospective members participated by introducing themselves and sharing one thing that they were looking forward to this summer. David Jay gave a speech on "Masks", and two brave prospective members "volunteered" to answer a Table Topics question.

As the club has gained experience, my role as a club Sponsor evolved from leading the meeting to observing and being available for questions. I have gotten to know the members better by listening to their Ice Breakers. Then there was the exciting moment when the club first appeared on the New
Club Report.

I encourage all seasoned Toastmasters to volunteer to serve as a new club sponsor or mentor when the opportunity arises. Newer members are valuable participants at Demo meetings.

District 22 and District 14 Coordinate Speaker Training in Atlanta

PharmaSUG 2008 TrainingBy Paul McDonald, ACG, ALB
Public Relations Officer

On June 1, 2008, speakers from Toastmasters District 14 from the State of Georgia and Toastmasters District 22 (that's us!) met at the Hyatt Regency in downtown Atlanta.  The purpose?  To provide speaker training for the 2008 Pharmaceutical SAS Users Group conference, called PharmaSUG.

PharmaSUG is an organization that meets annually to discuss and exchange ideas for people who use the SAS Software System and work in the pharmaceutical industry.  At their annual meeting of around 500 people, many of them will present technical papers to their peers for review--some will speak in front of a group for the very first time.

That's where our district came in!  With one idea, a few phone calls, and a bunch of e-mails, we were able to coordiante with local speakers from Toastmasters District 14 to provide a two-hour training session for the speakers.

The leadership of PharmaSUG was so impressed that they have already committed to future sessions.  PharmaSUG 2009 is in Portland, Oregon--we've already contacted Toastmasters District 7 for next year!

Editors note:  If you know of a group that could use speaker training, why not use selections from the Better Speaker Series to provide a session for them free of charge?  You don't have to go to Georgia or Oregon to do it--there's plenty of groups in your neighborhood that would benefit from these wonderful programs!

Full Ahead!  Warp Factor 3!

ThreeBy Annette Rude, DTM
Lieutenant Governor Marketing

Pull out the stops!  Unleash the forces!
Full steam ahead!  Don't spare the horses!

The magic number is 3!  Three new or renewed members per club by June 30 will achieve these distinctions:
  • 8 more Distinguished clubs!
  • 12 more Charter Challenge winners!
  • 14 more clubs at charter strength!
  • 15 fewer clubs with 12 or fewer members!
  • 16 more clubs win TI's Beat the Clock award!

Sure, we would also meet our District membership goal.

Is your club headed for the Toastmasters year end on June 30, with all engines firing?

Your club has one or two more meetings this month.  Go ahead, take advantage of the year end incentive to get excited.

Follow up with the last guests.  Get out that old roster and make some calls.  Turn in ALL new membership applications immediately - don't save any for next year.

Let's Beat the Clock!

Congratulations, Distinguished Clubs!
