Win the FT Contest!
by Marilyn Schwartz, ACS, ALB
Division R Governor
What is an FT? An FT is a First Timer, a Toastmaster member attending their first district conference. In keeping with the Toastmaster tradition of using acronyms, I have shortened the long used Toastmaster term of First Timer to FT for the upcoming Spring Conference. Although the majority of FTs are new members who want to check out all the benefits (& FUN!!) of attending a district conference, FTs on occasion are even long time, seasoned Toastmasters. The only criterion to be a FT is to attend your first district conference. For Spring 2009 Conference, we have the added excitement of a Presidential visit. Toastmasters International President, Jana Barnhill, DTM, will be presenting our opening session, luncheon keynote and an afternoon educational session. Jana Barnhill is not only an Accredited Speaker but has competed in the World Championship of Public Speaking twice, placing in the top 3 both times. You will find no better time to become a FT than Spring 2009 Conference! Contest In honor of this Presidential visit, District 22 is having a First Timer's contest. The club that registers the most FTs will win a free club registration for their choice of the Fall 2009 Conference (Topeka, KS) or Spring 2010 Conference (Kansas City, MO). FTs will be counted by club to determine the winning club, whether they are registered under a club or individual registration. Deadline to register FTs for this contest is April 8, 2009. Orientation If you qualify to be a FT, come meet district leaders and fellow FTs at the First Timer Orientation. This will be held at 7:45-8:15 AM on Saturday, April 18th, between the Brag Breakfast and Opening Ceremonies & Parade of Banners. See you there! |

HOTEL Arrive early or stay at the Hilton Kansas City Airport Hotel for a special $92 rate. Be sure to reserve your room by March 27 for this special rate -- and so that the conference will get credit for your stay. We don't make any money on your stay, but the hotel will view us more favorably if we use guest rooms - and you can stretch out during a break if needed. We have contracted for only 15 rooms at this rate on Friday and on Saturday. If you want a room at the conference, reserve it now by calling 1-816-891-8900 or 1-800-445-8667. COST Our conference is a self-funding event, meaning that the people who attend and participate pay for it. Your dues do not pay for the conference. We have changed the way that the fee for club registration is calculated to help us make ends meet - and to allow us to know exactly how many people will attend. The fee covers costs associated with each person who registers, such as name tags, tickets, programs and handouts We want you to know that we are making no profit on the meals. The price includes tax and a hotel service charge that give us the use of the room at no extra cost if we spend a minimum amount on meals. We strive to bring you a quality experience on a shoestring budget, which is why everyone needs to register. So, members, contestants, judges, volunteers, top 3 - everyone, register today. You know you will have a good time! |
