Officer Training
Most effective leaders do not just happen. To be effective, they must first learn how
to lead the members. That holds true in Toastmasters. Clubs, Areas, Division and
Districts all need effective leaders. Those leaders must receive the appropriate
training by qualified trainers.
Club officers are trained by those who have already served effectively as club officers. These sessions are
referred to as Club Officer Training (COT) or Toastmasters Leadership Institute (TLI) and Make Up Training (MUT).
Area and Division Governors are trained by people who have already successfully served those governorships.
This training is given as part of a day-long DEC (District Executive Council) meeting.
District leaders receive training from International Directors. This training is usually a part of
the Regional conferences.
The training is normally scheduled twice each year. The first training sessions are usually in June,
just before the new officers begin serving their terms. The other training sessions are given at mid-term,
usually in January.
